This is the moment a Manchester United fan popped the question – inside the Old Trafford dressing room.
Former referee Andy Jenkin, 32, proposed to Abi Waters at the ‘Theatre Of Dreams’ when the pair were on a stadium tour.
Andy dropped to one knee in the player’s changing room and asked Abi to marry him – and she said yes.
Andy, from Penzance, Cornwall, said: “We’d just had a holiday in Paris but I thought that was too obvious.
“I had already booked us all on a stadium tour for the day after the Juventus game and so thought that was going to be the perfect time and somewhere she wouldn’t expect a proposal to come.
“I contacted Manchester United and was put in touch with a lovely man in the museum team called Jason.
“After many secret emails and phone calls it was arranged that during the tour I proposed to Abi in the players’ changing rooms.”
Andy was struck down with Crohn’s Disease and 27-year-old Abi, who works in Primark, helped him with his illness.
Andy continued: “I’m currently struggling with a back problem, due to long-term steroid use for treatment for Crohn’s Disease.
“It’s weakened my bones and teeth and causing them to crumble.
“I have had a number of falls at home and I struggle to do simple things, so I have been forced to give up work and my love of football and refereeing.
“Abi is brilliant.
“She has to work for both of us, do a lot of the housework because I can’t and help me with even the simplest things like showering.
“I always said I’d never get married again but Abi made me change my mind. I wanted to propose to her in a special way.”
Andy’s proposal was witnessed by his daughter Summer, son Isaac and Abi’s daughter Olivia.
Abi added: “I couldn’t believe it – I was embarrassed, shocked and I cried.
“I’ve always been a Manchester United fan in the background as my family are supporters. I’ve never been to Old Trafford to see a game, though I really want to now.”
