An adorable litter of four-legged rugby fans are hoping they have what it takes to score a perfect match and get rehomed – having been named after members of the England rugby team.
Determined to spur on our national team while “try-ing” to rehome the pups, staff at Dogs Trust have named a scrummage of six pups after their English heroes.
And the eleven week old puppies, including three Lurchers and three German Shepherds, are desperate to be part of a perfect squad.
Staff have named the furry, four-legged line up Doggy May, Sam Furgess, Chris Robpaw, James Haskennel, Joe Launchbury-a-bone and Panthony Watson – and they have even been in training for a special pup-by game.
Despite their rugby-inspired names, the pooches are much more at home playing endless games of chase and could give their own rugby-loving owner a run for his money on the field.
However, they do like to watch the ball and would love to cheer England on from a comfortable sofa, surrounded by their own family team at the World Cup gets under way.
Richard Moore, rehoming centre manager for Dogs Trust Harefield, Uxbridge, explained his hope that the pups can find the right owners.
He said: “These mischievous little pups are full of energy so will need active owners with a strong throw to keep them entertained.
“They are still very young and like any rugby team would benefit from a little extra training. The team requires active homes with owners who appreciate the demands of young puppies and are at home most of the day to help them settle in.”
He added: “They would need homes with secure gardens to bound around in and would of course love a rugby ball to play with.
“They are fantastic little dogs who would make the perfect pets in the right homes with committed owners who appreciate a dog is for life not just for the World Cup .”
For England winger Jonny May, having these extra six fans could make all the difference to the team during the big games.
He said: “As a big dog fan I am very happy to have these little guys supporting us. I hope they find homes soon and they bring us luck in the tournament.”
