Could you love me? Gorgeous puppy abandoned because of his bear cub nose

Winnie the puppy who has been dumped because of her facial disfigurement is being looked after at the Basildon Dogs Trust with receptionist Sarah Rowe. See Ross Parry copy RPYBEAR : How could anyone BEAR to give up this adorable pup - whose owners wanted SNOUT to do with her. The gorgeous puppy was dumped in a box and abandoned in her local park when she was only a few weeks old. Cold, shivering and left to fend for herself, thankfully a passer-by found her and took her to the Dog's Trust at the beginning of October. Staff there fell in love with her - and noticed the unusual marking on her snout makes her look like a BEAR CUB. They named her Winnie - after the famous A.A. Milnes character - and nursed her back to health with all the bare necessities she needed.

After being inspected by the Dogs Trust veterinary team, crossbreed Winnie’s prominent marking was quickly diagnosed as a bad fungal infection.

The poorly pup is now undergoing treatment and although her infection is clearing up, Winnie’s snout is likely to always appear slightly imperfect due to existing scar tissue.

Staff at the Dog’s Trust in Basildon, Essex, are now hoping they can find a devoted new owner who won’t turn their nose up at her and, instead, will offer Winnie a lifetime of unconditional love.

Maria Wickes, Dogs Trust Basildon Rehoming Centre Manager said: “It’s so shocking that someone could abandon a family pet in this way, especially one so small and helpless.

“Winnie is such an adorable girl and a real softie – she has already melted a few hearts here at the centre with her bouncy, cuddly nature.

“You would never know she has been through such a tough time as she has so bravely recovered from her ordeal.

“Whilst her scar tissue is likely to remain, her fungal infection is clearing up nicely and she is just like any other healthy, energetic puppy.”

“Sadly, abandonments like this aren’t uncommon and they just go to show that Dogs Trust’s famous slogan “A Dog is For Life” is as significant as ever.

“We urge anyone thinking of getting a dog to consider the lifelong commitment of dog ownership before making the important decision to bring a dog into your home.

“With dogs now available to buy at the click of a button, it’s so important for potential owners to do their research and make sure they are able to give their four-legged friend a lifetime of love.

“Winnie is perfect in our eyes and we really hope she can sniff out a loving owner to give her the fresh start she deserves.”
