Cross-eyed rescue dog celebrates something very special!

Dennis the cross-eyed dog. See SWNS story SWCROSS; Things are looking up for a rescue centre dog who was constantly overlooked because of his CROSS-EYES after he celebrated a year in his new home. Hundreds of potential owners dismissed Dennis the Collie after his previous owner had to give him up because they couldnÃt look after him. The unusual-looking animal has a condition called strabismus which gives him the appearance of being cross-eyed. Despite his boggle-eyed look, the condition makes little difference to his sight although he is a bit slower at playing catch than a typical Collie.

After struggling to find a home, Dennis’s down on his luck story went global and Liz Parkes came to his rescue.

She adopted Dennis from the Dogs Trust in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, and this week they celebrated their first year as a family.

Dennis loves Liz and her partner Nathan Bates and has become best friend with the couple’s other dog, Milo.

The ambulance support officer from Oldbury, West Midlands, said: “Dennis has settled in really well and we absolutely adore him, he is the best of friends with our dog Milo and definitely one of the family – we already can’t imagine life without him.

“He seemed like a real character when we first met him at Dogs Trust and he has certainly lived up to this.”

“His slightly comedic cross-eyed looks really suit his cheeky personality.

“There is never a dull moment when Dennis is about, he is always up to mischief and we absolutely wouldn’t have him any other way.”

To celebrate his first anniversary with his new family, Dennis was given a special cake, which he posed up next to.

Helen Barlow, Dogs Trust Kenilworth’s Supporter Relations Officer, spoke of her delight at the happy ending.

She said: “Some people will overlook any dogs that have a slight health problem or appear different, and even with his striking good looks and fun personality Dennis was often passed by so we are so delighted that he has finally found such a fantastic home.

“He is super dog and we all became very attached to him when he was at Dogs Trust so it is wonderful for us to see him enjoying his first year in a happy home, looking cross-eyed at his anniversary cake, surrounded a loving family.”
