This is the shocking moment a devil dog chased a Yorkshire Terrier – seconds before it mauled the cute family pet to death.

Owners Bill, 62, and Dawn O’Connell, 58, have been left devastated after their beloved pooch Molly died hours after she was brutally attacked in their own front yard.

Bill was walking Molly and their other Yorkshire Terrier Penny in their local park just before 6am on August 7 when a vicious dog chased her home.

The two-year-old pet ran home but was chased by the other dog which then pinned her down and started biting Molly.

Owner Bill managed to drag it off but shocking CCTV footage shows the moment it managed to run back into their front yard seconds before Molly was mauled to death.

Bill and Dawn, who live in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., said the Yorkshire Terrier started to cough up blood before she died after the savage attack.

Their remaining Yorkie Penny has been “traumatised” after witnessing the attack and has been lying on her pal’s grave in the garden.

Dad-of-two Bill, who works in house maintenance, said: “Before I could pick her up she ran out of the park and home.

“I gave chase and on getting there, this dog had Molly pinned down and was biting her.

“After the second time I held on to the dog and went to find the owner.

“He was still in the park, I gave him his dog and came back to see how Molly was.”

Retired supermarket worker, Dawn, 58, added: “I heard the commotion and went to the front door, where Bill passed me Penny.

“Molly was squealing and a lot of the neighbours came out to see what was going on but the owner didn’t run over to help.

“The owner said Molly should have been on a lead, she’s a tiny Yorkie, she’s not the ferocious one.

“Bill grabbed the dog and handed it to the owner who then put it on a lead, it’s a shame he didn’t do it before.

“It was an uncontrollable dog in a public and private place, it’s dangerous and that could have been a child.”

The couple say they rang the emergency vet and they agreed to monitor Molly’ s condition.

But tragically Bill then discovered her dead in the early hours of the morning.

He added: “She was not well but I thought she might just be bruised, I had ran my hand over her and she hadn’t winced.

“I got up at 3.30am the next day to see how she was but she had died.

“That night, at 10pm when I let Penny out she went and lay on the grave and would not come in, I had to go and pick her up.”

Gran-of-two Dawn said Penny has only left the house once since the attack and that her five-year-old grandson has also been very upset.

She added: “Penny is traumatised, she hasn’t been trusting of any other dog since and been barking for her little mate.

“Molly was nervy as a puppy so we bought Penny to bring her out of her shell, which she did.

“It is such a shame for my grandson, he’s known Molly since she was a puppy and was just getting used to holding the lead.”

In an effort to track down the owner of the dog the couple have uploaded CCTV showing part of the incident to social media.

They also reported the matter to Staffordshire Police but a spokesperson for the force said they had closed the case which they called it a “civil matter”.

Dawn added: “Something needs altering in the law, it should be about the temperament of the dog not the breed.

“The dog owner should be accountable for what happened.

“There is no doubt about it, that dog will attack again.”
