Look closely at Sheila the abandoned cat and you will see there’s somethumb different about her.
The three year-old white and tabby is a polydactyl cat – one of a small number born with extra digits.

She has the normal five toes on her front paws plus an extra big thumb-like one which makes her look like she’s wearing mittens.
The affectionate cat was found three weeks ago dumped in a plastic box outside the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Cambridge.
They are looking after her but hope to hand her to a new home before long.
Welfare assistant Claire Thomas said: “As soon as we saw Sheila we noticed there was something different about her.
“Most cats have five toes on their front paws, but Sheila has extra ones which make her look like she’s wearing mittens.”
“We help lots of cats but we rarely see polydactyl cats coming through our doors.
“Hopefully her thumbs will help her attract the attention of a new family.
“She is a gorgeous cat and will make a great companion.
“Polydactyl cats are just like any other cat and Sheila will hopefully live a long and happy life.”
Claire says Sheila is a very active and playful cat, perhaps due to her flexible paws and will need a home with a garden she can explore.
