A Scottish family are trying to raise thousands of pounds to train their pup as an autism support dog.
Three-year-old Alyssa Stirling is autistic and her family are keen for her to reap the benefits of having a specially trained pooch.
The family from Polmont, Falkirk, now hope to raise £6,000 to get their 13-week-old Labrador, Harvey, the training he needs.
They have chosen newly formed charity Appaws For Autism to train their pet when they reach their fundraising goal.
Alyssa’s mum Elise said: “Appaws For Autism allows families to source their own puppies and lets them stay with the child while they go through training.
“Others train the pups, at great cost, and then hand over the qualified support dog.”
Harvey has been with the Stirling family since last month and Alyssa is already his best friend.
Elise said: “Having Harvey stay with Alyssa is so beneficial. She can get used to him and be comfortable around him.”
“Alyssa is head over heels for Harvey.”
Harvey will have to go through special training with The Kennel Club before he can become a qualified autism support dog.
The family have been trying various methods to raise the funds they need.
Elise said: “We have a target of £6,000 and already have £1,200.
“We have plans to do a ladies night among other things. We always want our fundraising to be something people can enjoy.”
