A recuse operation had to be launched for a distressed dog trapped underground at a Birmingham beauty spot for 24 hours. See SWNS story SWMDrescue. Freddy the Jack Russell headed under the surface in woodland at Sutton Park, on Monday (November 22) morning. And despite hearing him, his owner could not retrieve the dog and thought he sounded like he was in distress. He called West Midlands Fire Service on Tuesday morning shortly after 8am and a crew from Sutton Coldfield station were at the scene in three minutes. Firefighters set to work and dug deep to try and find Freddy. After two hours they managed to find and free him, with the pooch having spent a whole day below the surface.
