A severely neglected Saint Bernard needs to have his ears amputated – because of nearly a decade of being bullied by other dogs.
Boris the big fluffy dog will sadly need to get his ears cut off, after they were turned into a mass of scar tissue because he spent his entire life in cramped condition with mean animals who kept biting him.
Two dogs, Boris and Petal, were part of a case in which multiple Saint Bernards needed urgent assistance, because they lived all their lives in a garden in a large group – but Boris was constantly picked on.
Eileen Mellis and her partner, Kerri Eilertsen-Feeney, run Cinque Ports Rescue in Deal, Kent, and decided to help the badly-treated dogs.

Eileen said: “Boris is nine years old and has been neglected his whole life.
“He was emaciated, weighing less than half he should, with heavily thickened and scarred ears after years of bullying from the other dogs he was left in the garden with.
“He had horrendous ear infections, nails that were long and curved causing him pain, and a matted and dead coat from never having been groomed.”

Sadly, Boris ears will never get better, and are so uncomfortable for him they will have to be amputated, now he has put on enough weight to have an operation.
Dog-lover Eileen said that poor Boris had never known love or affection – but was still the sweetest dog.
The other pooch they rescued from the garden, Petal, was around seven years old – and had also been neglected her whole life.
Eileen said: “She is very shut down, but trusted us as we made her more comfortable and clean.”
After their rescue, the dogs received a full makeover from a grooming parlour – who also donated them shiny new collars and leads.
Eileen and Kerri are working hard to improve the condition of the two dishevelled dogs – but the added costs are putting some strain on the rescue centre.
But despite his awful condition on arrival, Boris is doing really well and his surgery is scheduled for next week.
Petal is also making a full recovery and there are hopes she will be ready for re-homing very soon.
