A devastated pet owner had to call in actual crime scene cleaners after her enormous Great Dane had an explosive ‘evacuation’ – all over the inside of her car.
Gigantic Merlin became unwell after eating something unsavoury while out on a walk with owner Leah Duncan.
But the toxic snack, believed to be cat poo, took its toll on the hour drive home and poorly Merlin let out a shuddering fart – followed by an avalanche of diarrhoea.
The 150lb Great Dane literally covered the back seat and head rests of the car – forcing Leah to wind down the window for the rest of the journey.
Thankfully, her insurance covered the clean up – but when reps saw photos of the mess, they sent round crime scene cleaners, who usually attend murder scenes.
Gagging cleaner Leah had to visit TWICE to get rid of all the mess left behind in the Toyota 4Runner.
Mother-of-three Leah, from Thibodaux, New Orleans, USA, said: “”We were going home from our second residence in New Orleans, which was about an hour drive, and Merlin was in the back seat, or rather, ON the backseat!
“His feet were rested on the rear seats with his behind comfortably perched up on the backs of the seats near the head rests, enjoying his ride in the car.
“One stretch was along a desolate bayou road, with no shoulder or any place to stop or turn around, and just as we turned the curve into the swamp, I hear a disturbing, flatulent noise.
“My hearts stops. I look into the review mirror in horror, but his nervous response was to release all of his anxiety – onto the backseat, right near the headrests, on down.
“He’d been caught eating cat poop earlier that day! I rolled the windows all the way down so we could both stick our heads out!”
Leah finally got home about 40 minutes later, but as he got out the vehicle, Merlin decided to shake himself off!
Horrified dog-mum Leah said: “Now, not just the back seats have been covered in his mess, but he shook it onto the ceiling, the front, side and back windows, the steering wheels, dashboard, and during the drive.
“It had even dripped down below the flip-back seats, even under them – completely covering everything!”
She called her car insurance company to see if she could file a claim, but they “laughed so hard, he had to put the phone down!”
Leah said: “He then apologized for laughing and , to my surprise, asked for pictures and said he would see what he could do!
“To my further shock, they agreed to pay for the crime scene cleaners – the ones who clean up dead bodies and murder scenes – to come out and clean my vehicle!”
The cleaning man came out to see her and “gagged his way through cleaning the car,” but later Leah noticed he had missed a spot UNDER the seats, so had to call him back out a second time!
The mother-of-three said: “We talk and chuckle about the story, gag a bit, and he tells me he’d ‘…rather have to clean up brains on a Monday than to ever have to clean this again!’
“He got tipped well!”
The incident happened in June 2014 but Leah posted it on a pet shaming Facebook group last month.Merlin died a couple of years ago.
