The owner of one of Britain’s fattest cats has blamed locals for feeding it so much – and is begging them to stop.
Sean Ryan, 52, has warned well-meaning strangers not to feed his friendly cat – which is now morbidly OBESE.
Vets warned he is at risk of developing diabetes, as well as a whole host of weight-related disorders.
Eduardo, the roly poly six-year-old cat, tips the scales at an enormous 15Ibs 7oz – almost double his ideal healthy weight.
He’s got so big Eduardo even struggles to get around, so Sean has put a collar on his neck saying “for medical reasons I am on a diet. Please don’t feed me.”
Sean, from Brockley, south London, said: “It has been going on for about a year and it wasn’t until recently that I decided to do something.”
He put a photo on Facebook asking people not to feed Eduardo because of his weight problem which received a “silly amount of likes”.
Sean previously worked at a local pub and the lucky cat used to enjoy the restaurant’s leftovers.
He said: “He would get sirloin steak and fish every day, now he eats pouches, dry food, cat treats and he loves cheese.”
Greedy Eduardo has worked out the best way to get snacks and attention from passers-by, and sits and waits in prime position.
Sean said: “He knows when the trains are coming and he lies waiting for people to come off the platforms and people do tend to treat him.”
He added: “He’s just getting ridiculously fat, it’s OK in summer but not when he gets his winter coat.
“I took him to the vets the other day and he could get diabetes, he’s suffering with his weight, he can hardly move.”
