Talented pooch Mango first hit the waves with her owner when she was just two.

But after five years honing her impressive board skills, she has now shown her unique talent in its full glory for the first time.

Heading out to sea at Holywell Bay in Newquay, Cornwall, where swells often reach 7ft, she accompanies and stands up along side her owner Matt Slater as he goes in hunt of some of the biggest waves around.

And after dramatic footage of her tackling the giant waves was released, Matt said she was not planning on stopping any time soon.

The unlikely duo from Newquay, Cornwall, regularly go out ion to the water together and have formed a very special relationship because of it.

Matt, who works as a marine biologist, said: “Mango still surfs regularly on beaches all around Cornwall but only on small clean days.

“We go out probably twice a month.

“We only surf together for a maximum of half an hour and if she is not enjoying it we go back in.

“But she loves it – she is very relaxed on the board.

“She wags her tail the whole time.”

The daring dog first started hitting the waves after owner Matt noticed her enthusiasm for the sea and bought her a surfboard back in 2011.

Mango would follow Matt everywhere – including into the water – so he thought about getting her on a surfboard.

He added: “It first started when we were out surfing one day, we left the dog on the beach and she just decided she wanted to join in.

“She swam right out through the waves, and I soon realised I was going to need to get a board big enough for the two of us.

“I bought a bigger board and it really took off.”

And Matt is not the only person Mango likes to surf with.

Matt’s two children, Toby, 10, and Daisy, 13, also hit the waves with her.

He said: “The kids are getting good at surfing with her too.

“I have no other dogs but I do have chickens.”

“They don’t surf though.”
