A timid pooch with a fear of the dark has been allowed a night-light at bedtime by staff at an animal rescue centre.
When three-year-old German spitz called Red Ted arrived at a Dogs’ Trust shelter, staff quickly realised he didn’t like sleeping in the dark.
They tried to coax the timid hound of his shell and started placing a night light outside his kennel to help him sleep better.

Since then he has come on leaps and bounds and the Shoreham branch of the animal charity in Sussex is now hoping to find him new loving owner.
Rehoming centre manager Tracey Rae said: “Red Ted is a lovely dog and we have enjoyed spending lots of time with him to help build up his confidence.
“We don’t know why he is afraid of the dark, but whilst he is with us waiting for his forever home, we will do whatever we can to ensure he feels relaxed and happy.”
Red Ted arrived at the centre after his previous owner lost her property and couldn’t take him with her when she moved.
Staff have worked hard to bring him out of his shell and are hoping a new owner will continue his training.
He is looking for a quiet home environment on a peaceful street with a nice garden to play in.
Even though he likes meeting dogs when out and about, he is looking to be the only pet in the home.
