Looking at the protective mothers of today, it’s hard to believe some of the techniques parents used in the past.
One of these rather bizarre trends, popular almost 100 years ago, saw parents putting their babies in CAGES outside the windows!
The cages were hung on the outside of apartment windows and used as a way of helping children to get the fresh air they needed.

With dads always working and mums seeing about the household chores, there was little time for the children to be taken out for the daily walks we find so normal today.
The trend came to live after in 1884, Dr. Luther Emmett wrote the book ‘The Care and Feeding of Children’ where he discussed the health benefits of ‘airing’ babies.

The parents of the 1930s were keen for their babies to get fresh air so invested in the risky solution to let their little ones hang out the windows protected by cages.
There must have been a few dare devils out there!
We’re pretty sure most parents these days would give this one a miss.
