This is the moment a loved up man proposed to his girlfriend – with a PIZZA.
Walter Marano, 27, had planned to pop the question to his partner of five years, Sophia Florio, 24, in Italy.
But their holiday was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic so he decided to bring a taste of Italy to them instead.
He arranged a romantic meal at a restaurant in Fitzrovia, London, where waiters brought out heart-shaped pizzas.
They had the words ‘will you marry me?’ written across them in crust and were presented to Sophia, a receptionist.
Shocked Sophia said ‘yes’ and diners burst into cheers for the couple – before they tucked into their meal.
They are planning to tie the knot in Italy in 2022.
“I love pizza – so it was the perfect proposal,” Sophia said. “It was a complete surprise. I had no idea it was coming.
“We were disappointed when our holiday to Italy was cancelled – so decided to go for Italian food to make up for it.
“I was so shocked when the pizzas read ‘will you marry me?’ – I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with Walter.”
Sophia had not suspected the proposal after Walter, a barber, took her on a weekend away to London in September, 2020.
On their first night, a nervous Walter took Sophia on a date to Circolo Popolare, an Italian restaurant, in Flitzronia, London.
“It was beautiful and felt like we were actually in Italy,” Sophia said.
“We sat down and he ordered a shot.
“They hadn’t even taken our food order and I thought: ‘It’s taking ages then the next thing I know I had a pizza in front of me saying ‘will you marry me”.” Sophia said.
Walter pulled out the ring from his pocket and Sophia said yes before standing up to give him a kiss.
“Everyone was cheering for us, it was amazing,” Sophia said.
For the next few days the couple felt a ‘constant buzz’.
“It was the best feeling ever,” Sophia added.
“Even with an audience it was very intimate and romantic.”
The couple have been together for five years and Sophia is known for being fussy.
“I wouldn’t have said yes if it wasn’t perfect,” she said.
“Luckily for him, I love London and it was so romantic so I had to say yes.”
Walter had the ring for nearly a year – after coronavirus got in the way of his plans to propose on holiday in Italy.
He couldn’t wait any longer and decided to pop the question on the weekend getaway.
The couple plan to get married abroad in Italy in two years time and hope to start being able to look for venues soon.
