A diner has launched the ultimate Birthday Cake Burger – loaded with three bacon cheeseburgers, homemade macaroni cheese, marshmallows and sandwiched between SPONGE CAKE.
The monstrous and sickly creation also includes brisket, along with BBQ pulled pork, and those brave enough to tackle the football-sized behemoth will need to stump up £25 for the gut-busting pleasure.
The idea for the burger to end all burgers was cooked up by American-style Rebels’ Smokehouse in Beverley, East Yorks., to celebrate the restaurant’s third birthday.
Sean Singer, 33, the executive chef at Rebels’, said he hopes the latest wacky creation will prove to be a hit.
Sean said: “It’s a real showstopper, so hopefully it will be very popular. The photos don’t do it justice compared to seeing it in real life.
“I’ve tried it myself and it took a couple of us to get through it.
“I’d give yourself about half an hour to get through it.”
Sean said all the elements to the belly-busting burger are freshly prepared in-house, with the sponges taking 35 minutes to bake and the brisket and pulled pork smoked overnight for 16 hours.
Sean added: “It takes about 10 minutes for the chefs to put it all together once the burgers come out of the fridge. It’s a building act but to be honest it only takes a few minutes longer than a normal burger to put together.
“Everything we serve up is fresh. The only freezer we have in the place is for ice cubes.”
Sean, from Hull, East Yorks., said the idea for the crazy creation came about as the restaurant approached its third birthday.
He said: “We have a lot of people coming in and asking for cake. We have brownies which sell pretty well, but we thought if we were to do a cake we’d like to do it as a main course rather than a desert.”
He now hopes the massive burger will become part of the restaurant’s permanent menu.
He said: “This burger is about catching the eye and getting people in to try it.
“If it is successful we can hopefully put it on the menu forever.”
The eatery has previous form for its outlandish creations and portion sizes which have included double-cheese calzone burgers and doughnut burgers.
Sean said the diner is now developing a range of American-style tapas dishes, including mini cheeseburgers and duck and waffles aimed at belly-busting lunchtime hunger.
The Birthday Cake Burger goes on sale today (July 8).
