Cathleen Hackney is on trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. A mother accused of having her son cremated so his dad could not attend the service told a jury he had not objected to a cremation. Cathleen Hackney, aged 56, said she filled in forms with two different funeral directors saying no near relatives opposed her son Paul Moreland being cremated – because there were no objectors. Hackney said: "There was no objection, not in any of the letters sent to my solicitors. Nobody ever mentioned there was a problem with cremation." Hackney, of Park View Way, Blurton, is on trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after denying two charges of signing a false certificate with a view to procuring the burning of human remains and one offence of making a false representation with a view to procuring the burning of human remains.
