The mother of a 12-year-old rape victim has blasted judges after her daughter’s attacker had his “lenient” sentence slashed.
Jordan Carley, 20, got the girl pregnant when he attacked her despite telling her it was “minging to get off with minors”.
Carley raped the girl, who is now 17, in July 2015 in woodland when he was aged 16.
A court heard the terrified victim was bullied at school after her classmates refused to believe she had been raped.
Carley was arrested after a DNA test following the termination of the baby proved he was the biological father.
He pleaded guilty to rape and was jailed for four-and-a-half years at Northampton Crown Court in July last year.
But Carley, of Corby, Northants., successfully appealed the sentence which means he will serve just 22 months behind bars.
The judges, Her Honour Justice Johannah Cutts DBE and Sir Nicolas Blake, agreed that the original sentence was too long.
They reduced it to three years and nine months and said Carley will serve half of that sentence meaning he will be eligible for parole next May.
Speaking after last Friday’s Court of Appeal ruling, the victim’s mother slammed the sentence for being “too lenient”.
She said: “I feel let down by the justice system, I’ve lost a lot of trust and faith in it after today.
“It wasn’t the best outcome however it wasn’t the worst either, but he is going to get out at some point which I’ve come to terms with.
“I’m shocked at the fact he appealed it in the first place with such a lenient sentence, and more so because it was shortened even more.
“I’ve had so much support from my family and friends which has massively helped and I’m so grateful for that.”
The court heard the victim, who cannot be named, found the courage to tell medical staff about her ordeal when she went to terminate the pregnancy.
Jailing him last year, Recorder David Herbert QC, told him: “The offence was detected because you made her pregnant and she complained about that to medical staff and the DNA test showed you had made her pregnant.
“You went on to take advantage of her. She may have consented but her account is that she didn’t want sex to happen but just went with the flow.
“But for your actions, this would not have happened. The gulf between your respective ages is considerable.
“You told her that it was ‘minging’ to get off with minors. You clearly knew what you were doing was wrong but you led her into the woods to have sex with her.
“She did not have the ability to consent.
“You made her pregnant and the effect on her has been profound – physically, mentally and psychologically because of the termination.”
