A four-year-old summoned all his strength to lift a double size bed off his mum to save her arm from being snapped off – while wearing Incredible HULK pyjamas.

Karate-loving Luke Banks displayed Hulk-like strength to lift the bed off mum Gemma Banks, who was being crushed under a bed.

The 32-year-old was at home with Luke and his two-year-old sister Lucy when her mobile phone fell down the gap between the mattress and headboard of her Ottoman bed – which raises up for underneath storage space.

With the bed raised, she reached down to grab her phone – but one of the springs gave way and Gemma’s arm got trapped under the heavy bed, leaving her screaming for help because she thought her arm was being snapped in half.

Brave Luke used all his strength to lift up bed and most of his mum to free her arm, while he was wearing his Hulk pjs, at their home about 7am last Friday.

Gemma, from Crawley, West Sussex, said: “I had my arm down the gap and I heard this snap and it fell on my arm.

“My arm was wedged in this gap about an inch and a half or two inches wide.

“It was excruciating, it felt like, had it gone down any more, my arm would have snapped off, it would have just broken, no question.

“I was trying to hold the bed up with my other arm so it didn’t fall any further but I could feel it was slipping; it was going to go.

“I started screaming for help, shouting really loud and Luke ran in, saw what the problem was and used all his strength to pull the bed up.

“He is only little and it is really heavy, even putting the bed together was an absolute nightmare because it was just so heavy.

“I think it was like when survival instincts kick in and you get that superhuman strength.

“Luke has never even been able to open it himself before, even with the springs in tact.”

Gemma says Luke, who will start primary school in September and wants to be in the emergency services when he grows up, is now firmly her hero.

She said: “He is a very active little boy, I think he is quite strong.

“He does karate and he’s always told me he wants to become a policeman or a fireman.

“I told him he’ll be able to save people like that every day if he does. He had a great big smile on his face.”

Because of Luke’s heroics, Gemma was left with a nasty bruise on her arm, rather than a more permanent injury.
