Britain’s most dedicated postal worker is still going strong aged 94 – after working at his local branch for 80 YEARS.
Dedicated Norman Burroughs first started working for his local post office as a telegraph boy when he was 14-years-old.
The passionate postie worked his way up to postmaster of the office and hopes that he will carry on serving customers until the big 100.
Despite taking a back seat, Norman and his wife Mary, who have been married for over 65 years, are still offering a helping hand at Latchford Post Office, Warrington.
“The customers are really nice, they keep me going. If I am fit enough then I will continue going for as long as I can.
“I started as a telegraph boy when I was 14, it has changed so much since then.
“In the old days you would get so many people queuing up but it has all computerised now and is done on machines a lot more, while people tend to do a lot online.”
Norman’s son Chris is now postmaster of the firm on Knutsford Road and has praised his dad for his dedication to the post office.
He said: “We try to embrace the changes and help each other out as much as we can, which is why I think we are getting more business each month.
“I would be really proud if he came in to work when he turns 100 – it is really nice seeing him in here.”
