Three people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a woman died just hours after taking part in a bizarre ‘slap therapy’ course at a hotel retreat.
Danielle Carr-Gomm, 71, took part in the violent alternative therapy treatment where participants were slapped black and blue.
The grandmother, who suffered from diabetes, was found dead in her hotel room in the early hours of the morning just hours after her therapy.
It is believed she skipped taking her insulin after attending the complimentary healing class which took place at Cleeve House country hotel in Seend, near Melksham, Wiltshire.
Hard, repetitive slapping and painful stretching are practised during the controversial healing technique known as Paida-Lajin.
A 64-year-old woman, a 51-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were all arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and have since been released on bail.
Carlo Zacca, manager of the 19th-century country house, confirmed that Mrs Carr-Gomm was found dead in her room at 3am by another woman undergoing therapy who shared the room.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “Police were called to an address in Seend in the early hours of 20 October following the sudden death of a woman.
“We are currently treating her death as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.
“Three people -have all been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
“A post mortem has been carried out but the results were inconclusive. We await further toxicology tests.”
An inquest into Mrs Carr-Gomm’s death was opened and adjourned at Salisbury Coroner’s Court on Friday.
