Former One Direction star Zayn Malik was so moved by a tot’s heartbreaking cancer fight he surprised the family with a massive £10,000 donation.
Helen Robinson woke up to the shocking donation which was left under the name of “Zayn Malik” on the GoFundMe page of five-year-old Caitlin who is battling deadly neuroblastoma.
The shocked mum spotted the huge donation on Tuesday (January 21) and hopes the star’s generosity will extend to his millions of fans.
The GoFundMe page was set up by Helen Robinson after her daughter Caitlin Robinson was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer.
Little Caitlin was diagnosed with Stage 4 neuroblastoma last year after Helen noticed a mysterious bruise next to Caitlin’s eye.
Brave Caitlin has already gone through several rounds radioactive therapy but her most recent scans revealed the cancer spread and the tot now needs “life saving” treatment only available in Barcelona.
The desperate mum is hoping to raise £150,000 to transfer her to SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital – which is one of only a few hospitals which offers anti-GD2 immunotherapy treatment.
Successful treatment increases survival and improves quality of life in patients with high-risk neuroblastoma by reducing exposure to cancer cells.
Helen, from Burnley, Lancs said: “I got up in the morning and checked the page like always and I couldn’t believe it when the total raised had jumped by more than £10,000 so quickly.
“When I scanned the list of names and saw Zayn’s there I couldn’t believe it.
“It would be nice if I could thank him personally but I obviously don’t have his contact details.
“It’s a big boost and I hope it can encourage others to donate.”
As well as the GoFundMe page, Helen has also set up a series of fundraising events in Burnley to help raise money for her daughter.
The mum-of-two has reached out to Zayn via Instagram to thank the singer for his “immense generosity” and hopes his fans will join the cause to save her daughter’s life – who loves to sing One Direction songs in the shower.
Brave Caitlin has been battling the rare cancer since her diagnosis in March 2019, and has tragically spent 70 per cent of her time in that period in hospital.
But after over 40 rounds of chemotherapy and countless transfusions, little Caitlin still wasn’t cured.
The desperate mum has since been advised her best option to save her daughter’s life is a specialist treatment in Barcelona – but it will cost her £300,000.
After which the pair will need to travel to America to get injections which will cost the single mum a further £250,000.
Helen, from Burnley, Lancs., said: “I woke up and we were £10 off £2,000 and I was buzzing to get to that number.
“Then when I checked again it was suddenly up to £12,000. I couldn’t believe it, I was completely elated.
“I thought maybe lots of people had donated but to my shock and surprise it was just the one donation from Zayn Malik.
“I was overjoyed and I want to say a massive ‘thank you’ to Zayn for his immense generosity, we appreciate it more than you believe.
“Thank you for helping my daughter and I hope his fans can come together and help our cause too.
“Many kind hearts can make a big difference.”
