Has this mother crossed the line?
Jessica Anne Colletti, from Pennsylvania, has sparked debate after she posted a photo of her breastfeeding not only her son, but her friend’s son as well.
Jessica shared the photo on a pro-breastfeeding Facebook group of her wet nursing the two young boys, her 16-month-old son and her friend’s 18-month old.
Mrs Colletti, 26, dubs the two boys ‘milk siblings’. The response from Facebook users has certainly been divided, with one user commenting “Great and perfectly natural”, whereas another user was less than impressed, writing “Dude…don’t breastfeed someone else’s child. That’s just wrong.” The criticism seems to mostly be about the fact that she is breastfeeding another mother’s child, and not with the fact she uploaded a photo of her breastfeeding.
Jessica told MamaBean, the pro-breastfeeding site where the image was posted;
“Breastfeeding my friend’s son came naturally to me. I started babysitting him when he was 5 months old and the first time she dropped him off to me I asked permission to nurse him, since I was already nursing my 3 month old.
“She responded with an enthusiastic yes, because he was having issues with the formula his previous sitter had been giving him. She was always very happy that her son had the nutrition and comfort he needed while she was working.
“Being able to breastfeed her little boy has created a special bond between us all, a bond I will always cherish.”
Jessica, however, is not fazed by the critics – in fact she was expecting them.
After receiving a large amount of friend requests from male opportunists, Jessica is now considering removing the post.
