Rachel Pighills in hospital. A mum is desperately urging for donations towards a life-saving surgery in America, after a failed procedure has left the her on the brink of death. See SWNS story SWMDbrain. Rachel Pighills, from Pershore, Worcestershire, is trying to raise £350,000 to treat brain-stem compression, an injury she suffered in 2018 after hitting her head on a ceiling fan. The 35 year old underwent a procedure in January last year to alleviate the problem, but sadly the surgery failed. Her condition has since worsened, placing her in respiratory failure and a severe risk of brain-stem death. Mrs Pighills said: "Nothing else will work. My only option is to have decompression surgery and the sooner I have that, the better my chance of having a complete reversal of symptoms and full recovery." The complex surgery is due to take place in New York if enough money is raised, by Dr Paolo Bolognese - the only neurosurgeon in the world willing to do the procedure.
