We live in a post-internet era filled with a plethora of notifications and digital responsibilities. Whether it’s a steady stream of work emails or the pressures of social media, it can often lead to people feeling stressed, frustrated and at worst feeling low. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

By making a few small changes you can reduce your stress levels, stay happy and feel fulfilled. In this post we discuss how, in a digital age, you can do just that.

Digital detox and declutter

Although the internet can bring a wonderful array of benefits, it can also have its drawbacks with one in four people spending more time online than they do asleep. That’s why, from time to time, it’s important to switch off and enjoy a ‘digital detox’.

But how? A great way to get started on your detox journey is by focusing your attentions elsewhere. One popular method is decluttering.

Now popularised by the global rise of Marie Kondo organising consultant, decluttering has been said to give people a “greater sense of control and well-being by lowering their stress levels.”

And it’s time you hopped on the bandwagon. Why not start by decluttering your overflowing medicine cabinet or messy wardrobe? Not only is decluttering a good way to stay off the phone, but it can also help you feel better – like the saying goes “tidy home, tidy mind”.

The importance of new skills

The internet isn’t all doom and gloom. In the post-internet era, you have access to a wealth of knowledge and resources. With this new-found information, you can learn new skills which can help improve your mental well-being.

Crafts are a perfect way to de-stress after a hard day and help hone your creativity to make something special for your friends or relatives. Equally, cooking a homemade hearty meal from scratch can be a relaxing antidote to a stressful day.

Follow a new healthy recipe online or watch an arts and craft tutorial. Whatever you choose to do, you can find a number of online resources to help you along the way.

All work, no play

Reducing stress means taking time out from work. After all, all work and no play can take its toll. You’ve earned some downtime and you should enjoy it guilt-free.

A great way to do this is by playing games. Making time for playful games can activate a relaxation response and help you feel better in the long run. Not only can they keep you entertained for hours at a time, they can also help you stay focused and alert. Whether it’s a classic board game like monopoly or an online gaming site like Mr. Green online casino – there’s something to suit every person out there.

Fighting fit

Another great way to de-stress in the post-internet era is by staying active. The NHS recommends 30 minutes of exercise a day, which can help boost brain activity, reduce stress and improve your overall well-being.

Follow a YouTube yoga video or head to the gym. There are plenty of ways you can stay fit and healthy. With spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect excuse to get outside. Just getting out in the fresh air can be great for personal health.

Stay happy and stress-free

Whether it’s making more family time or enjoying your own space, there’s plenty of fun activities to keep you happy and stress-free in the post-internet era. Best of all, your friends and family will love your latest recipes, crafty projects or well-kept home.
