An obese son has fulfilled his mum’s dying wish after shedding an incredible 10 STONE – in just six months.
Greg Churton, 20, had always been overweight but when his mother tragically passed away from a brain tumour in April last year he ballooned to a staggering 22 stone 5lbs.
He gorged on a McDonalds breakfast every morning which would be followed up with a chip shop lunch and takeaway dinner causing his waist line to expand to 52 inches.
Mum Angela had always nagged him about losing weight but despite previous attempts he never had the willpower to follow it through.
But on Christmas Eve last year Greg pledged to honour his mum’s wishes and joined his local Slimming World group in January.
After replacing his unhealthy lifestyle with a diet of cereal, lean chicken and beans he has slimmed down to a healthy 12 stone 10lbs and a 34 ins waist.
Greg, from Sandyford, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., says: “Mum always wanted me to lose weight, and I would say I will, but it just never really happened.
“Even when she was poorly she was saying ‘when are you going to lose some weight son?’
“So when she died, I thought I would keep my mother’s promise. I wanted to make her proud of me up there.
“I had her on my mind when I went online on Christmas Eve and found all these slimming plans,
“It made me more determined than I’ve ever been. I started in January and just didn’t stop.”
Greg used to work his way through fast-food, beer and cigarettes, but now he’s kicked the habits in favour of a calorie control diet.
He now enjoys going on regular walks and bike rides in the countryside after being given a new lease of life.
He added: “I just feel so much healthier now. My breathing’s improved and I can finally ride my bike again.
“At the start I couldn’t exercise and my aim was on controlling my eating, but now I go for walks and cycle about.
“My confidence has improved so much as well, and everything is easier.
“All my mates have been telling me how much better I look.”
Angela passed away when she was just 57 leaving Greg to live with his dad, Peter, 59.
Unemployed Greg added: “My mum would be so proud, I know she always wanted me to be healthy.
“All my family have been telling me how happy she’d be to see me like this.”
Proud brother Paul, 35, said: “Greg has just turned 20 years old and has just achieved the unthinkable.
“My brother, for most of his life, has been overweight.
“This was made worse when our mum passed away in 2014 and it hit us all hard, especially Greg.
“His weight issue increased to the morbidly obese category very quickly.
“He decided to try to lose weight, as my mum was always on at him, but she never succeeded with her attempts.
“He lost 10lb in his first week at the Slimming World in Tunstall.
“I don’t think he has quite grasped the incredible achievement that he has made.”
