This uplifting video captures the incredible skill of a quadriplegic who has learned to knit – with her MOUTH.
Alicia Jones, 33, has been paralysed from the neck down since being hit by a car when she was two.
But she has not allowed her disability to be an obstacle to her creative talents and taught herself how to draw and paint with her mouth as a teenager.
Now Alicia, from Cardiff, uses her oral dexterity to knit complex designs and has even made a “wishing tree” out of metal wire.
Describing how she got into her hobby, she said: “I was stuck at home. I wanted to go to college but I couldn’t get the transport to get me there.
“I had to do something with my time so I started picking up my mum’s pencils and doing some drawings.
“I then got onto painting by numbers but soon got bored of that.
“I enjoy doing my knitting. I find it therapeutic and relaxing. I’ve always tried to be creative.”
Despite not having the use of any of her limbs, Alicia says her creations are “not particularly difficult”.
“It took me about two days to get the hang of,” she said.
“I don’t think they’re particularly good but my friends do. They are very supportive. All my friends and family are telling me to keep up the good work.”
Alicia, who recently got engaged to her partner Kevin, 33, hopes her work can encourage other people in similar situations to be creative and not feel limited by their disability.
“Absolutely others should try the same,” she says. “Never give up.”
