A single mum says she cries every day because she has just £40 a week to feed and clothe her two children - and rising living costs will make the problem worse. Kelly Thomson, 43, said she's been struggling to get by on the small sum since getting long Covid in December 2020, when she was signed off from her job as a cleaner she claims. And, although Universal Credit covers her £1,300 monthly rental and a few other costs, Kelly says she has around £160 a month left to live on. She says she used to spend £12 a week on electricity but, after recent energy cost rises, that sum is met in four days.
