Love match Sophie as a baby

David McDermott and Sophie Coles, both 26, have already shared almost their entire lives together having grown-up around the corner from each other.

The couple are so in sync they even buy each other the same presents for birthdays and Christmases.

In May they’ll tying the knot close to where they shared their first kiss as teenagers near Leicester.

Sophie, a hospital sonographer, said: “Our friends laugh and say me and Dave are becoming the same person because we’re so close.

“We were born in the same ward and might have had the same midwife.

“We’ve asked our parents and they said there’s a chance our dads passed each other in the corridor outside.

“It is unusual that we were born in the same hospital on the same day. It is a huge coincidence, but it is meant to be.”

“He was born at about 9am and I was at about 11am. He likes it that he is older.

“We lived round the corner from each other and went to the same primary and secondary school but only realised we shared the same birthday when we both turned 16.

“We were at school and Dave said he was going bowling for his birthday and I said I was too so we both ended up having a birthday together.

“The similarities between us are quite odd because not only were we born at almost the same time but we ended up going to the same school, college and even university.

“We’ve even bought each other the same presents and once we both bought each other Coldplay tickets and ended up with four between us.”

David, a software engineer, was born at the Leicester Royal Infirmary at 9.29am on March 14, 1989 weighing 8lb 3oz.

Just 90 minutes later his wife-to-be Sophie was born yards apart in the same hospital weighing 8lb 6oz.

They lived just yards apart in Wigston, Leics., and both attended nearby Busloe High School before going onto Guthlaxton College where they started dating.

They are getting married on the ten year anniversary of their first kiss they shared after walking home hand-in-hand from school just before they sat their GCSE exams.

Sophie said: “Our friends think it is nice we are getting married on our ten year anniversary.

“That will be ten years since he first held my hand on the way back from school and when we had our first kiss.”

After leaving college the couple both ended up going to Leeds University with David studying Environment and Transport Studies while Sophie took a degree in Sports Science.

David and Sophie on their travels across India

They went travelling to India and Australia for seven months and got engaged in Amsterdam before setting up home in Portsmouth, Hants.

This weekend the pair will travel back to the East Midlands where they will get married at St Peter’s Church, in Tilton-on-the-Hill, Leics.

David added: “When we meet people, they don’t really believe it. There is only about two hours between us. It is weird.

“The worst thing is going through passport control and filling out forms, people say ‘are you having us on?’ Our birthday is like a second Christmas day.”
