A bride and groom who met through the bagpipes have piped themselves into their own wedding – which was live streamed on the internet.

Claire Boyle and her new husband Steven played the bagpipes for their friends and family at their wedding reception.

And the couple, from Falkirk, Stirlingshire, were watched by more than 3,000 viewers online as they played.

Claire, 25, a support services assistant, first met Steven, 31, a joiner, at a rehearsal night for the Denny & Dunipace pipe band 13 years ago.

And members of the band were on hand to join the couple in marking their wedding celebrations with a rendition of traditional and modern songs.

Proud mother of the bride Karen Malcolmson, who works for the NHS, said: “Claire was 12 when she joined the band, originally as a drummer but then moved on to learn to play the bagpipes.

“Steven helped her a lot with that and things just went from there. ”

“They both still play in the Denny and Dunipace pipe band and they absolutely love it. The whole band are like one big happy family and they were more than happy to play on their big day.

“We all thought it was a great idea when they said they wanted to celebrate their wedding day by playing the pipes for their guests and it all went off brilliantly.

“There was quite a few of our family and friends coming up from down south and Claire and Steven both knew they were fans of the pipes.

“It was really special for them.”

Staff at the Grange Manor hotel near Grangemouth, Falkirk, livestreamed Claire and Stephen playing the pipes on their Facebook page at the wedding last month.

It was watched by more than 3,000 people online.

Karen added: “I don’t think Claire or Stephen knew the hotel staff were filming them while they played the pipes.

“It certainly seems to have gone down well though as it has had thousands of views.

“Hopefully it will be a good thing and get the band even more business than they already do.

“I’m just so happy that Claire and Steven were able to celebrate their big day this way.”
