A heartbroken swan was rescued after getting stuck on a roof for 24 hours looking for its mate which had been killed by a dog.
The snowy white bird was eventually coaxed down off the 30ft high property by firefighters.
It was uninjured and was released back into the wild following the rescue at a house in Matchborough, Redditch, Worcs.
Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service leapt into action to save the stranded swan on April 14.
A spokesperson said: “We were called out to the unusual rescue of a swan from the roof of a two-storey terraced house in Redditch.
“The crew had a ladder at the ready and efforts were made to encourage the swan down from the roof.”
Fire crews left the bird for its own safety but were called out again 24 hours later when the swan was still wandering on the tiles.
The swan finally flew down on its own and was checked over by wildlife experts.
Rescuers say the bird got stuck while searching for its mate which was attacked by a dog.
Writing on Facebook, Wychbold Swan Rescue said: “We were called to an injured swan at Matchborough pool in Redditch.
“The injury had been caused by a dog bite. The swan was too badly injured and unfortunately did not survive.
“Its partner was wandering looking for it.
“It was found in a back garden of a house in Matchborough East and then two days later ended up on the roof of a house in Matchborough West.
“It took almost 24 hours before the swan came down.
“Thankfully the Fire and Rescue service were able to assist in this rescue.”
