A mysterious letter in a bottle dated from 2001 has washed up on a beach in Ireland – with a tip on Bin Laden’s possible whereabouts written inside.
A message from 18 years ago suggesting where to find the world’s most wanted man, Osama Bin Laden, has been found on a beach near Dublin, Ireland.
Dated 17 May 2001, the message in a bottle was picked up by an eight-year-old boy who was at the beach after eating fish and chips with his mum.
It reads: “Sending a message in a bottle!
“Friends finale is looming… Ross and Rachel?
“Osama Bin Laden… check kyrgyzstan… I have a feeling…. on to something lads.”
Timur Timondegus discovered the bottle, lost at sea for almost 20 years, on Tuesday afternoon (June 11).
He found it on Malahide Beach whilst walking by the sea with his mum, Olesja Akmane, 31.
“I was so surprised and my son was so excited”, said waitress Olesja.
The mum-of-two added: “It looks real. It looks very old. It’s not something someone would joke about.
“Timur thought he had found treasure. It’s a small piece of history for him to keep.”
The pair, from Swords, County Dublin, discovered the screw-capped bottle at around 4pm.
Inside they discovered a note suggesting former al-Qaeda terrorist Bin Laden might be somewhere in Kyrgyzstan, central Asia.
At the time the note was written Bin Laden was at the centre of a worldwide manhunt.
He was a major target for the United States and at one time had a $25 million bounty placed for his captured by the FBI.
Bin Ladenhe declared a war against the United States, claiming responsbility for a series of bombings, including the tragic 9/11 terrorist attack in New York.
He was eventually shot dead on May 2, 2011 by US Navy SEAL forces.
The message didn’t include any names, contact details or reference to where the message was sent from.
It remains a mystery who sent the message and where from, and Olesja is hoping to be able to track down wrote cast it out to sea 18 years ago.
She said: “I would love to see if we could find the person who wrote the letter. Who is this person? I’d really like to know.
“I don’t where it was sent from. I have no idea. It could have come from America.
“There are no contact details.”
The message also included a message referring to the final episode of the series seven of Friends, which aired on the same day as the note was written.
Olesja, who also has a four-year-old daughter, Sophia, said: “It has made us want to write a letter in a bottle too.
“My son wants to keep it in his room. He was really excited by it.”
