The wooden cabin is a good investment that lasts for many years with timely maintenance. However, one of the simplest and most effective ways to make it stand out is to apply the coat of paint. Painting transforms the look of your log cabin and protects it from harsh external elements and weather. But painting a wooden home is a pretty complicated task. In this guide, you will learn about different things necessary for log cabin painting:

Painting Preparation

Check your log cabin state. Like other building materials, logs in the house turn grey in sunlight exposure. Therefore, to retain its high quality and looks, take proper care of it by timely painting. If you want to paint an old timber house, remove its former paint or detach layers of paint using a scraper. Then, scrub the gross surface using sandpaper to achieve a matte look. In addition, scrub the rusty nails before applying a primer.

Impregnating

Once you prepare the log cabin exteriors for painting, apply the impregnant’s first layer. So, it would be best to choose a colourless protective agent. Such protective agents do not contain pigments. As a result, it penetrates deeper into the timber, ensuring maximum protection from pests and mould.

Before applying it on logs, mix the protective agent properly. During this process, air temperature should not be less than 5 ° C and higher than 25 ° C. Once you apply it, leave the impregnated wooden cabin for at least 12 hours to dry.

Choosing the Right Paints

Painting a log cabin to change its colour or refresh its exteriors is an excellent way to add vibrancy to the outlook. But it is also important to make sure that mould or weather don’t affect the log cabin. Keeping that in mind, our first step is to select the right paint. Try to understand that your log cabin needs what type of paint.

Use specialised paint to ensure that your wooden house retains its colour for a long time and stands up to the harsh elements. In addition, these specialised colours can protect the cabin against moisture and other damages to keep the structure sound. So, most people use acrylic latex paint for the exteriors. It dries off quickly and looks great, providing a strong protection layer against the weather.

Mistakes to Avoid

Here are some mistakes you should avoid while painting your log cabin:

  • If your house consists of dark-toned timber, avoid using deep paint shades. Instead, choose colours that complement well with dark wood and make the home look spacious.
  • The rotten wood in the cabin needs a replacement before the painting process. So, cover all wall imperfections with a suitable compound.
  • Do not forget to use tape around door frames, window sills, and other places with edges.
  • Pay proper attention to painting tools selection. For example, some areas need rollers for best results, while others require a paintbrush.

Knowing How to Paint Helps to Save and Make Money

All wooden cabins need paint for extra protection. It includes a sealant to protect a place and incorporate the damp-proof membranes in the construction process. It extends the life of your wooden house. However, you don’t have to paint it every year.

Instead, timely inspections will be a great investment for the future. You will get a good value if you put such wooden cabins for sale. Moreover, with proper painting, you can give protection to your house. As a result, you don’t have to make unnecessary payments in future.
