A seven-year-old girl who nearly died after being stabbed in the neck and chest by her dad has met the hero police officers who saved her life.
Noura, who was six at the time of the brutal attack in May 2020, was invited to meet the Duke of Cambridge alongside the response officers who provided first aid.
Police responded to calls from worried family in Austria who had received a photograph online of both father and daughter with significant and horrific stab injuries.
The family made contact with a friend in London who then contacted police, who said they lived in a block of flats in Brent, north London.
PC Ryan Legge and PC Ahmed Mavitunali forced entry into several flats until they found the man and Noura.
The young girl, then six, received first aid from the officers before paramedics treating her dad took over and she was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Although it was initially believed she might suffer serious neurological brain damage, she has made a full recovery after spending three months in hospital.
Noura’s father, who was found with self-inflicted stab wounds, was arrested and charged with attempted murder. He was subsequently jailed for 22 years.
Noura was unconscious when the officers gave her first aid but she wanted to meet them in person and thank them for what they did for her.
She was collected by the officers from school and taken to to the event marking Emergency Services Day, held annually to acknowledge and thank emergency workers and the NHS for their work across the country.
North West BCU Commander, Sara Leach, said: “I am immensely proud of Ahmet and Ryan, whose actions at the scene were crucial in helping Noura in this sad and shocking case.
“This was a violent assault on a young girl by a person who should have been looking after her.
“It is quite right that both officers be recognised for their quick thinking under what must have been extremely distressing circumstances.
“They, along with Noura, should be commended for their bravery and resilience.
“It is really special that Noura and the officers are able to meet at this event, and it will I’m sure be an emotional moment for all.”
